Our History
The AIDS Research and Treatment Center of the Treasure Coast (ARTCTC) was founded By Dr. Gerald Pierone Jr. in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1995. His vision was to provide high quality medical care for people living with HIV infection. An additional goal of this 501(c)3 non-profit organization was to provide access to cutting-edge clinical trials for patients. Over the years our organization has grown and in 2011 ARTCTC opened a second facility in Vero Beach to provide care and reach those in need of treatment in Indian River County and further north. Our mission also includes ongoing efforts to prevent transmission of HIV through testing, counseling and education. ARTCTC currently provides primary care for over 900 patients with HIV infection and AIDS in a four county region. Our research department provides our patients the opportunity to participate in important clinical trials, partnered with the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) in Port St. Lucie. We also collaborate with a network of community based partners that work together to coordinate delivery of HIV prevention and early intervention services to high-risk members of the community regardless of ability to pay. We participate in local community events focused on health and wellness such as our own annual AIDS Remembrance Walk and National AIDS Awareness programs.
